Though I try as much as possible to not go into movies with expectations, the murder mystery Clue is significantly better than I had anticipated for an adaptation of a board game. The first surprise came when it took me a few minutes to realize that Lesley Ann Warren wasn’t Susan Sarandon. The script is razor-sharp and keeps the plot constantly moving forward. Though I’ll always associate Tim Curry with Rocky Horror Picture Show, it’s nice seeing him in a more restrained performance.
Once paranoia enters the equation, Clue doesn’t look back. The second act becomes very repetitive as the group tries to find out the identity of the killer and everyone begins constantly shouting, but the humor and mystery keeps things interesting. There were three different endings that were shown theatrically at different theaters, and the version I saw showed all the resolutions. Thankfully, they each contained different scenes rather just swapping out the killer and leaving it at that.
