9) Sightseers [5.0]

Chris wants to show Tina his world and he wants to do it his way – on a journey through the British Isles in his beloved Abbey Oxford Caravan. Tina’s led a sheltered life and there are things that Chris needs her to see – the Crich Tramway Museum, the Ribblehead Viaduct, the Keswick Pencil Museum and the rolling countryside that separates these wonders in his life. But it doesn’t take long for the dream to fade. (2013)

A strange, dialogue-heavy road trip film, Sightseers initially creeps along at a snail’s pace. There’s a bitterness that runs through Sightseers that made it difficult for me to get into. As the film gets progressively more violent and Bonnie and Clyde-esque it becomes more interesting. Though I enjoy black humor, the whole thing felt mean-spirited. It’s tone is consistent throughout, but unless your preference is for dry and extremely bleak, this movie may not be very appealing.
